Gel pens were first invented by the Japanese pen manufacturer Sakura in 1984. Gel ink consists of a pigment that is suspended in a water based gel, this allows a far greater range of ink colours and effects than ballpoint pens such as pastel, fluorescent and metallic shades of ink. Gel pens tend to produce stronger lines and more vibrants colours due to putting more ink onto the paper than a standard ballpoint pen. One of our best selling gel pens is the Sakura Gelly Roll, available in a range of unique inks such as the sparkling effect of the Gelly Roll Stardust or the 3D embossed effect of the Gelly Roll Glaze. The Pilot G2 gel ink rollerball pen is another one of our best sellers and comes in a wide range of pastel, metallic and standard ink colours. Browse our full range of gel pens below.
