Pen News

A round up of a few items from the world of pens and pencil that caught our eye in August 2010.

For many companies, the ‘back to school’ period is a key point in their calendar. To drive sale, Staedtler UK announced its first television advertising campaign expected to cost in the region of £250,000. Among the items featured is the instantly recognisable yellow and black striped Noris pencil, sales of which now exceed an amazing 33 million pieces annually.

Nich Lee, head of marketing , comments: “ TV marks an exciting milestone in the history of Staedtler as we build brand values directly with our target consumer . ‘Go to School with Staedtler’ is the key messag in our commercial and parents will recognise the Noris pencil from their own schooldays and reinforces the trusted bran values of Staedtler – quality, reliability and innovation.”

Can we expect other pen companies to follow?

Visitors to this year’s office* exhibition www.officeshow.co.uk will see a spectacular range of writing instruments as Mitsubishi Pencil Company brings the circus to life as a colourful cast of characters unveil its latest office products.

Stuart Barker, marketing manager of the company said:” Everyone can relate to the office circus from the fire breathing boss to the PA who can juggle a hundred and one things. Our stand will see the Jetstream range take centre stage and we hope that visitors will be suitably impressed with the incredible powers of our uni Super Ink.”

Office Exhibition

Visitors to the stand can claim a free sample Jetstream as well as the chance to win among other things, a 16gb Apple iPad. The office* show takes place at Earls Court, London on September 21-22.

And finally;

It may not be the Premier League, but we tip our hat to the Pilot Pen Company who is sponsoring 3 players at Holyport Football Club for the new season.

Holyport FC Logo

Don Skelton, MD of Pilot said:” Holyport has just finished a very successful season, achieving third place in the Hellenic League and are likely to see its first ever entry into the FA cup. We are delighted to support the club and wish all concerned every success in the coming season.”

When Writing Gets Dull, Try Pen Spinning

September 21, 2009

And here we thought pens were just for writing. Turns out, there’s another use. Pen spinning is the art, or at least hobby, of “contact juggling” with either a normal ink pen or one that’s been specially modified to make it easier to manipulate. Spinners do exactly what the name implies – rotate pens as [...]
